I am in my 3rd trimester & am due in the fall. I’m just curious how many women out there plan on getting the new H1N1 flu vaccination? I understand the importance that pregnant should get vaccinated but am nervous at the same time. What are you going to do?

H1N1 is a weaker version of the normal flu. It’s up to you if you want to get vaccinated or not. You might as well do it if you do get the normal flu shots.

I will not be getting the shot. It’s such a new vaccine.. Nobody has any idea how it will effect our babies. I’m not even going to risk it.. I’m just trying to stay healthy and wash my hands as much as I can.

It’s a flu shot. It isn’t a ‘new’ vaccine — just a different varient on the flu virus. Flu shots have been given safely to pregnant women for many years.
(I’m not pregnant. I don’t know if I’ll get it or not … I’m a healthy adult woman and I never seem to get the ‘regular’ flu, even though I don’t bother with flu shots. Daughter will get it, however. She has asthma, so is at high risk.)

i won’t be getting it. I don’t get the regular flu shot either. I just feel like it is too new to risk. I lost my first baby and am not risking this one. I’m just too nervous about it being too new and not knowing what the long term risks are.

I agree with Army Wife, who knows what results it could have on the babies! I stay at home with my daughter and also 32 weeks due in nov. I wont be getting it either, just stay sanitary! Besides it doesn’t guarantee you wont get the flu.

I plan to get it along with the regular flu vaccine. Better safe than sorry. I will have a new born in late Feb or early March, along with a 20 month old and a 7 year old. Plus, my husband travels to alot of different countries for work and breathes in alot of that recycled aip plane air.

I will definitely not be getting the regular flu or H1N1 shots. I am due in February so, essentially, I will be pregnant the entire flu season. I have talked to my husband and we agree that the H1N1 is way too new to understand long term effects on an unborn baby.
Best of luck to you all!

My biggest concern is the long term effects or the side effects that would show up later on, H1N1 has already killed quite a few pregnant women, so it really is a tough decision. They are not sure about the side effects or the long term effects of this vaccine, but if you don’t get it and you do get the H1N1 flu virus then you are not only risking your life but you are risking your babies life too. I would really like to know more details about this vaccine before I risk my babies health for no reason…

I am so happy that someone else is aware that the H1N1 vaccine is not a “new” vaccine at all. It is just a flu shot, a different variant of it though. People need to start doing more research before they jump to conclusions about things.
A note to all that get the seasonal flu vaccine:
That vaccine changes yearly! So before you go and say that you don’t know the effects from the H1N1 vaccine, do you really know the effects from the seasonal flu vaccine?
Myself personally I am going to get the vaccine along with all three of my children. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant. When my twins were newborns my son had a very close brush with death because of the seasonal flu. I don’t want to take any chances. Better safe than sorry!
